ABOUT ABOUT

Join NextFab on Friday, June 12th @ 12 Noon for lunch around the topic of starting up in Philly and building a biotech company.

We will be hosting Jon Kiel, Ph. D., Senior Scientist with Exponent. Dr. Kiel addresses problems involving the characterization, development, production, and use of polymers, polymer composites, and products containing functional plastics. He has 12 years of experience in the production, development, and research of polymeric materials, including automotive coatings, structural polymeric supports, reverse osmosis membranes, and organic photovoltaics. Additionally, his expertise includes the understanding of consumer-based and point-of-care protein detection applications, including those performed by lateral flow devices, and he has an understanding of the technical and financial challenges associated with start-up companies.

Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Kiel founded and served as Chief Science Officer of GlutenTech, a device-oriented company focused on detecting food allergens for consumers. Before founding GlutenTech, he was a Research Scientist at NanOasis, a start-up company developing carbon nanotube/polymer composite reverse osmosis membranes for large scale desalination. Additionally, Dr. Kiel spent nearly 4 years as a Process Engineer for the E.I. DuPont de Nemours Company in two separate business units; Automotive Coatings and Advanced Fiber Systems.
